Hey! I just wanted to take this moment to encourage you to explore the possibility of going to Nicaragua in January 2010. This past January I was invited by Melanie Hardison, Associate for Enough for Everyone program of the PCUSA to travel to Nicaragua as a part of a delegation to learn more about our denomination's involvement with Fair Trade Coffee and Sweat Free T-shirts. If you have not read the blogpost of my trip experience you can read it here. I had a wonderful time spending time at CEPAD, living with farmers in rural Nicaragua picking coffee beans and learning about the organic coffee production process, and listening to the stories of the women who started making Sweat Free T's from the beginning to now.

I definitely learned a lot about the coffee industry and how America consumes the majority of coffee in the world. I am not a coffee drinker but whenever I do drink (or eat chocolate) I only purchase and partake of Fair Trade products. And I am always mindful of the Duarte family that I stayed with and how what we consume affects their lives and other coffee farmers and their families. In addition, I had a great time with our delegation and made some great friendships!
I highly encourage you to take a look at the details of the trip and discern whether God is leading you to be a part of the delegation. The trip dates are January 16 - 23, 2010 and for more information follow this link. This trip will be a life-changing experience and it is my prayer that you will be open to God's calling for you to go to Nicaragua!
